I try to have a nice collection of
beads for the ladies to choose from, but I have to admit I kind of lean to the
childhood side of bead selection and buying. I like to buy; the flashy beads,
the brightly colored beads, the cartoon character beads and of course the big
ball beads. Having a large selection of beads means you will not get turned
down for flashing. I am usually done with buying beads and almost never by
beads during Mardi Gras. I begin buying beads for the next Mardi Gras normally
thirty days after the current year’s Mardi Gras. I like to use select group
friend’s daughters to assist and give me advice on what they like and do not
like about the Mardi Gras beads and why. I look for beads in the oddest places;
convince stores, gas stations, and garage sales. By always being on the hunt
for beads I have a large selection and at a very affordable price.
I began the blog to track how much work I do to let young ladies earn their beads and favors by flashing on Bourbon Street. I look all year long for favors and odds and ends to let young ladies on Bourbon Street, during Mardi Gras earn their items. (I give nothing away, they must earn them.)

Everyone wants Beads
Beads are the currency and status
symbol of Bourbon Street. All the ladies want a neck full of beads, big beads. Most
ladies stand under the balconies and cut deals for the beads some cut deals on
the street. A growing number of young ladies stand under the balconies and beg
for the beads and are unwilling to earn (Flash for) the beads. The young ladies
that flash go away happy with their beads, the young ladies that don’t flash
may or may not leave happy.

This was a onetime deal, the young
lady wanted the big ball beads and she earned the beads, she was fast but I’m
good. (I got the flash!)
Three New Finds
I’m always on the lookout for new and
different items to turn into favors on Bourbon Street. I try to keep in the
theme of New Orleans, Louisiana and Mardi Gras. New Orleans, Louisiana and
Mardi Gras to me is the Fleur de lis, Jazz music, crawfish/lobsters, they look
the same, and alligators. Since Disney’s movie the Frog Princess I really try
and keep frog items on hand.
The one frog item I have girls always
want to flash for it, but I don’t take flashes for this item. I even has a
young lady come out of her dress to flash for this item, it is our signature
item and it is VERY popular. (No it’s not SpongeBob.)
My last outing yielded three nice
bags; a Teddy Bear purse, and a Unicorn backpack and a Bat backpack. I also
found by blocks, this was a surprise they were less than two dollars.
